Juggling in Movies

Children of Paradise (1945)

[Marcel Carné film; Arletty, Pierre Brasseur, Pierre Renoir]

France. Original title: Les enfants du paradis. This movie usually appears in lists of the best films ever made. The protagonist is a mime, but don't hold it against him. He works at the Funambules in Paris. It seems that at some stage a century or two ago, theatre was made illegal in Paris. To get around this, theatre shows were performed on a tightrope, since circus and vaudeville weren't illegal.

There is some background juggling and various other circus skills in this amazing film.

At 0:22:15, and for the next 2 minutes 20 seconds, a man dressed in a striped shirt and pants is seen many times juggling 3 clubs.

At 2:08:21, a man is juggling 3 torches in a large crowd, seen from a distance.

The entire movie may be seen here.
