I've probably read as much about Nicholls as anyone else, but I did come across one tidbit in an old film-making book in the library that folks might not have known. It seems that at the ripe old age of sixty-something, Nicholls came briefly (and quietly) out of retirement to help with the making of a teen beach movie. The script called for a scene where the main character was supposed to juggle a beach ball and two "buoys" (clubs, really), but there was a problem - the star couldn't juggle. The director or producer or somebody knew Nicholls, and he agreed to spend a day or so on the set teaching the star to juggle. Well, you probably guessed it: the star was Elvis, then at the height of his popularity. The book had one black-and-white still of Nicholls and the King doing three balls side by side on the set. I don't know if the juggling scene ever made it to the big screen - anybody seen it? > Happy birthday, Magnus! And many happy returns. Peace, -McD (.sig says Rock 'n' Roll, baby.)
